Plate of Hope is a non-profit organization founded to strengthen food safety, nutrition, and agricultural sustainability across The Gambia. We collaborate with local and international partners to create lasting impact, ensuring every community has access to safe, nutritious food. At Plate of Hope (POH), we believe that every plate of food tells a story — a story of hope, dignity, and the power of community. Founded in The Gambia, POH is dedicated to ending hunger and malnutrition.
How do we Encourage Safe Food Handling and Preparation?
Wash hands before handling food and after using the toilet.
Separate raw and cooked foods to prevent cross-contamination.
Cook foods thoroughly, especially meats, eggs, and seafood.
Store foods safely, keeping cold foods below 5°C and hot foods above 60°C.
Use clean utensils and surfaces for preparation.
Importance of Nutrition

Proper nutrition ensures that children grow strong and healthy, supports brain development, and strengthens bones and muscles.

Good nutrition is the foundation of health, growth, and development. It goes beyond simply eating enough food — it’s about eating the right kind of food that provides the body with essential nutrients to function properly.

Healthy eating habits help prevent both undernutrition and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and heart disease. A nutritious diet balances carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and micronutrients. Limiting processed foods, salt, and sugar improves overall health and longevity.
